Mark your calendars for the grand opening of the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU

The Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU opens to the public on April 21 with a site-wide exhibition, Declaration, and a day-long Block Party showcasing Richmond’s curious-minded culture.

Admission to the ICA is free, but timed tickets will be required for building and exhibition access during opening weekend.

BLOCK PARTY

Block Party will feature Richmond based artists and makers leading artmaking, performing live, and serving delicious food! Held outdoors on the Markel Center grounds.

Block Party festivities are free, open to the public, and do not require a ticket.

DECLARATION

Declaration is infused with our belief in the transformative power of art and artists as well as the importance of contemporary art and ideas. On view through September 9, 2018, Declaration features the work of 34 artists, and is accessible via timed ticket.

The Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU opens to the public on April 21 with a site-wide exhibition, Declaration, and a day-long Block Party showcasing Richmond’s curious-minded culture. Block Party will offer interactive activities, food, and live music and performances emceed by Kelli Lemon with DJ Lonnie B! Held outdoors on the Markel Center grounds, Block Party is free and open to the public. This is a rain or shine event.

FAQs


Do I need a ticket?
During our public grand opening weekend (April 21-22, 2018), everyone wishing to enter the building will need a free timed ticket. Block Party festivities outside of the ICA are free, open to the public, and do not require a ticket.

I have a timed ticket. What time should I arrive?
Admission entry is guaranteed up to thirty minutes after ticket time. If you arrive early, take a moment to visit the shop, grab a coffee at the cafe, or enjoy the Thinking Field.

Do children require a ticket?
Yes, unless they will be carried by a parent or caregiver or can be held in a lap. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that Exhibitions contain content that adults may wish to preview before visiting with children.

Where can I park?
Pay parking decks are available at Henry St, W Broad St, and Laurel. We encourage you to bike, walk, or use public transit.

What if it rains?
This is a rain or shine event!

What about restrooms?
Three family friendly restrooms are available. A Visitor Experience Associate can help you locate the nearest one. Note that a diaper changing station is located in the lower level family restroom only. Portable restrooms will be located inside of the festival area.

Will there be alcohol?
Alcohol is NOT permitted to be brought onto the property. Beer will be for sale and may be consumed inside of designated areas only.

Can I bring my dog/cat/goldfish?
Please DO NOT BRING PETS (other than service animals) to the ICA Block Party. We expect very large crowds and your pets will be more comfortable at home.
