ICA Talk: Amir Berbić
Amir Berbić, dean of Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar, discusses the agency that design can offer in extreme circumstances, and the role it plays in constructing memory and making sense of the past, as individuals and as societies.
Berbić’s design research and practice explore place identity, three-dimensional typography and design pedagogy. His work involves collaboration with cultural organizations, arts institutions and publishers and has been featured in numerous academic and professional publications, conferences and exhibitions. Prior to joining VCU, Berbić taught and held leadership positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and taught at the American University of Sharjah. Born in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he immigrated to Chicago in the 1990s.
