Raised in Richmond’s Blackwell neighborhood, Cole Hicks’ parents instilled in her a love of music from a very early age. She displayed precocious talent, calling in to radio rap battles and opening for Lil Wayne at the now shuttered Mansion 534 when she was still a teenager. Now recognized as one of the area’s premier MCs, Cole Hicks released her debut album “Mayday” earlier this year. As part of Rashid Johnson’s “Monument” installation, she will be performing a mix of spoken word, live music, and turntablism.
