The ICA will be closed from July 15-September 5 to install our upcoming exhibitions. We will reopen on September 6 for our fall premiere.

COST


Admission to the ICA is always free. Certain programs may require advance registration.

PARKING


We are located at the intersection of Belvidere and Broad streets in the center of Richmond.

Metered parking by the hour (4 hour limit) is available in the VCU QQ Lot located at 612 W. Grace Street, directly adjacent to the ICA.

Paid VCU parking decks are nearby at 1111 W. Broad Street and 801 W. Main Street.
Parking can also be found on adjacent streets. Please observe all posted signs and parking regulations.

We encourage you to bike, walk, or use public transit. Plan your trip using Richmond Public Transit (GRTC).

ACCESSIBILITY


We’ve designed our space and our programs to be accessible to all. The ICA is accessible to those using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. All galleries and the auditorium are accessible by elevator.

As a part of VCU, we’re in lock step with the university’s policies on access, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), ADA Standards for Accessible Design, and Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Service animals are permitted.

VISITOR POLICIES


Mask Policy

Disposable masks are available at the front desk for patrons if needed.

Visitor Experience + Safety

Do not make physical contact with any artwork objects, display cases, or pedestals unless it is expressly stated otherwise. Remaining at least an arm’s length away from any work of art is strongly suggested.

Please be respectful of your fellow visitors. Running, yelling, and cell phone conversations are strongly discouraged. Please silence your phone and take calls outside of the gallery spaces. Earbuds are provided for audio tours at the Visitor Services Desk.

All children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Exhibitions may contain content that adults may wish to preview before visiting with children. Three family friendly restrooms are available. Note that a diaper changing station is located in the lower level family restroom only.
 

Photography

Non-flash photography and video for non-commercial use is permitted unless otherwise indicated. Tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, drones, and large recording equipment are prohibited.

Sketching

Sketching in pencil is allowed at the ICA unless otherwise noted or if special permission has been granted. Sketch pads must not exceed 11” x 17”.
 

Food + Drink

Food and drink (including candy, gum, etc.) are not permitted in the galleries. No outside food or drink is permitted. Water bottles are permitted.
 

Pets

Only service animals are allowed to enter the building. Leashes are required at all times.
 

Prohibited Items

The following items are not permitted to enter the galleries:

  • Food and beverages
  • Pens and markers
  • Skateboards
  • Umbrellas
  • Bags and purses larger than 16” x 13” x 9”
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Selfie sticks, tripods, monopods
  • Signs or placards

Single wide, standard strollers are permitted.
 

Coat Check

We encourage you to leave your personal belongings at home or in your vehicle. A coat check area is available in the lower level. Due to limited space, the availability of storage lockers is not guaranteed. The ICA is not responsible for stolen or damaged personal property left in the area.
