Xenogenesis (Virtual) Salon

Thursday, May 28

7:00 PM–9:00 PM

RSVP

Building on the energy and momentum of the ICA’s Xenogenesis Salons, this series invites The Otolith Group members Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun to engage with our local and global community in an intimate virtual space designed for intensive connection and dialogue. This salon will take place via Zoom on Thursday, May 28th from 7–9 pm EST.

RSVP required, space is limited. Zoom details will be shared with registered participants in advance.

This textured experience will offer visual and aural activations inspired by The Otolith Group’s Xenogenesis exhibition, and will focus on their new film entitled INFINITY minus Infinity (which will be shared with registered participants in advance). Conversation prompts will explore ideas around cultural hybridity, the unpayable debt of slavery, assimilation and self-determination, politics of space and otherworldliness, and technology as a spiritual force or symbiotic partner in humanity.

This virtual salon is an iteration of the series of small informal in person dinner gatherings launched in early 2020. Furthering the spirit of hospitality and togetherness central to the salon experience, we invite participants to break bread together through our Digital Dish—an offering of shared recipes and a list of recommended Richmond-based restaurants that participants can support during this time. Salons are also enriched by curated watch + play + reading lists, giving participants a glimpse into some of the film and sonic inspirations that influenced The Otolith Group’s work.
