ICA exhibiting artist Lily Cox-Richard invites writer, musician, and artist Johanna Hedva to the ICA for a special guest talk. For Hedva, Cox-Richard’s work provides a framework for conjuring that exists in parallel to their own poetic practice: “Lily speaks in the language of someone who understands how a sky can be on fire with color and then turn gray, and still the people underneath it persist.” Hedva’s talk at the ICA will build upon the ecological, astronomical, divinatory, and poetic frameworks that the two artists share in their understanding of the world.

About the Artist:
Johanna Hedva is a Korean-American writer, artist, musician, and astrologer who was raised in Los Angeles by a family of witches and now lives in Los Angeles and Berlin. Hedva’s practice cooks magic, necromancy, and divination together with mystical states of fury and ecstasy. Hedva is the author of the essay collection How to Tell When We Will Die: On Pain, Disability, and Doom, which won the Amber Hollibaugh Award for LGBTQ Social Justice Writing. They are also the author of the novels Your Love Is Not Good and On Hell, as well as Minerva the Miscarriage of the Brain, a collection of poems, performances, and essays. Their artwork has been shown internationally, and their albums are Black Moon Lilith in Pisces in the 4th House and The Sun and the Moon.
