ICA x KADIST: Double Takes
ICA Auditorium
June 5 – August 16, 2026
ICA x KADIST: Double Takes is a summer-long program of film and video screenings that launches the ICA’S three-year collaboration with the pioneering Paris-based contemporary art organization KADIST. This daily screening program in the ICA Auditorium will feature a selection of artist films drawn from KADIST’s extensive collection, including works that have been commissioned for or presented at major international events, inviting Richmond audiences to engage deeply with contemporary moving-image practices that address urgent social, political, and environmental concerns. Lush, immersive, and formally profound, the selected films explore societies shaped by militarization, climate change and ecological precarity, vanishing and reemerging landscapes, and the enduring power of artistic and civil resistance. Spanning diverse geographies and cultural contexts, the works reflect the ICA and KADIST’s shared commitment to amplifying artists whose practices respond critically and poetically to the conditions of our time. Double Take is designed to encourage sustained viewing and return engagement, positioning film as both an exhibition format and a space for reflection and collective experience.
ICA VCU’s collaboration with KADIST will continue to expand access to global contemporary art through teaching, research, and public engagement. Both ICA VCU and KADIST are invested in contemporary art as a site of learning, experimentation, and critical inquiry.
The program is organized by Amber Esseiva, Senior Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs at the ICA, with curatorial support from Egbert Vongmalaithong, Assistant Curator; Kennedy Jones, Curatorial Assistant; and Stone Thurman, Film Program Assistant.
