Join us for a screening of Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect, a documentary exploring the life and legacy of the nation’s first African American Supreme Court justice.
The film traces Justice Thurgood Marshall’s path from his legal career with the NAACP, where he earned the name “Mr. Civil Rights”, to his landmark 1967 appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
This event is in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall Foundation and VPM.

About the Speakers:

Cecilia Marshall, Executive Director, Thurgood Marshall Foundation
Cecilia Marshall is Executive Director of the Thurgood Marshall Foundation, where she leads the family’s efforts to preserve, protect, and promote the legacy of her grandfather, Justice Thurgood Marshall, bringing experience in fundraising, strategic partnerships, college access and success, and program innovation to the role. Her career has centered on expanding opportunity and social mobility, with senior positions at Ed Advancement, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and APIA Scholars, where she launched initiatives to improve college access and student success for underrepresented communities; earlier, she led global recruitment for her alma mater, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and worked as a producer at BBDO New York. She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Scholarship Providers Association and currently serves on the Board of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the racial justice legal organization founded by her grandfather.
