Broad New Day, in collaboration with VPM and the Valentine Museum
Celebrate Broad Street with the ICA, Valentine & VPM at this inaugural event exploring the corridor’s history, future and culture.
Three of Richmond’s leading arts and culture institutions are joining forces for the first time to champion Broad Street and the future of downtown Richmond. See the schedule below for a day of community fun-fueled events.
Agenda:
2:30–3 PM, At VPM: Doors Open & Check-in
Check in and view historic, panoramic images of Broad Street 1919, on loan from the Library of Virginia, on display for a rare look back at the corridor’s past.
3–4 PM, At VPM: Broad Street Then & Now
Join VPM’s Hidden History host Brian Bullock, Joseph Rogers (historian), Carena Ives (Jamaica House owner) and Liz Kincaid (Arts District Revitalization) for a conversation on Broad Street’s history and what lies ahead.
4–5 PM: Broad Street Walking Tours with the Valentine
Explore downtown stories with tour guides from the Valentine. Learn about the people, businesses and culture that have built Broad Street.
5–6 PM: Explore Broad Street restaurants, bars and shops
6–7 PM, At ICA: Reception
Featuring light fare by ICA Chef-in-Residence VegTable and wine program by Penny’s Wine Shop.
7–8 PM, At ICA: Intersection music performance
A partnership between the ICA at VCU, Overcoast Music + Sound, and Spang TV, Intersection is a live-taped music series recorded in front of an audience at the ICA. Each event pairs a nationally touring artist with a Virginia-based ensemble, combining sonically distinct bands for a one-time performance of a brand new sound. This Intersection performance will feature Erin Lunsford and Jonathan Meadows.
8–10 PM: Keep the night going – After Party at Overcoast Music & Sound
Whether you’re drawn in by history, food or music, there’s something for you. Choose tickets for a single experience or join us for the whole afternoon and watch downtown Richmond come alive.
