Doing Language : Word Work Launch II
Join us at the ICA on Friday, May 6 to celebrate the launch of nonorien(table), a multimedia installation by artist Riley Hooker commissioned through the ICA’s Doing Language : Word Work project.
Doors open at 5 PM, and we’ll begin promptly at 5:30 PM in the auditorium with a conversation between Riley and fellow DL : WW artist agustine zegers about our relationships to institutional spaces, considering the body as a mechanism to encounter, read, metabolize, and pass information continuously. Following the discussion, guests are invited to the forum for a reception and viewing of nonorien(table) on the basement level of the ICA.
Doing Language : Word Work is a multi-part curatorial project that commissioned five artists—Bryan Castro, Riley Hooker, Joselia Rebekah Hughes, Malcolm Peacock, and agustine zegers—to generate new work in the form of editions and new media. Inspired by Toni Morrison’s Nobel Prize Lecture, DL : WW frames language as a tool to help give shape and weight to the gestural, imperceivable, and fleeting experiences of our lives.
Thanks to Nina Carreli on special effects makeup, Steven Harwick on blue screen videography, and Ziúr on sound design for nonorien(table).
While this event is free and open to the public, we encourage you to RSVP.
