Community Media Center Film Lab

Community Media Center Film Lab

Friday, Jun 26 – Jun 28

APPLY

Join us for the Community Media Center Film Lab, a laboratory for film beginners that teaches by doing, resulting in a 3–5 min. short film directed, shot, edited, and screened in the ICA. Taking inspiration from the “Dogme 95” genre of films, the ICA Film Lab encourages participants to make use of existing lighting and sets to prioritize storytelling over spectacle. With guidance from professionals over the course of a weekend, this is a crash course in movie production, integrating lessons on shoot production and logistics, editing, and post-production.

The workshop will hone attendees’ skills in narrative, direction, and production, resulting in a film production credit for participants and an interesting artifact of institutional history. The class is aimed at creatives eighteen and older who wish to extend their skills into film production and want peer support and guidance on how to produce and shoot.

The workshop is seeking ten to fifteen participants, all of whom should be willing to engage in all elements of filmmaking (acting, production, cinematography, and editing) and willing to commit to all three days of the workshop, from 10am–5pm. Submit a short application here. Once admitted, a $40 registration fee is required to secure your spot in the workshop.
