First Friday

Friday, Apr 5

6:00 PM–9:00 PM

Join us on the first Friday of each month for extended gallery hours and food & beverages at Ellwood’s Cafe at ICA, plus FREE tours, performances, and other special events. Galleries, shop and cafe open until 9 pm.

6–9 pm | Dialogues Digital Learning Lab
In the last ten years our collective use of digital platforms — like Google, Amazon, Instagram, SnapChat, Facebook, and YouTube — has increased significantly. Over 90% of Millennials in the U.S. now own smartphones! In our Dialogues exhibition Irena Haiduk explores the distinctions between work and play in digital platforms, while Martine Syms examines the intersections between race, representation, and technology. We invite you to come map out and reflect on your interactions with digital media and technology. Hosted by the ICA’s Student Engagement Committee in the Learning Lab.

6–9 pm | Ink Magazine Release Party
VCU’s fashion, arts, and culture publication Ink Magazine is hosting its annual spring event in collaboration with the ICA. This event is to celebrate the release of its spring print issue, where guests can pick up a free copy of the magazine and a screen-printed tote bag, have their face painted, and enjoy music by DJ boygirl.

4 + 7 pm | Provocations Performance: River City Poets

5–9 pm | Talk/Tour/Sketch
Stop by for a chat with one of our talented student guides. Interested in a tour? Bring your questions or tell us what interests you and we’ll customize a tour on the spot. You can also grab supplies from our Art Cart and do some sketching

6–6:30 | 3 in 30
Explore three works of art in 30 minutes with an ICA student guide.
