About the speaker:
A former international reporter for NPR, VICE Sports, The Guardian, and ESPN’s 30 for 30 podcast, Asa brings a compassionate documentary eye to ambitious fictional projects. His 12-episode audio fiction series, SIX SERMONS, starring Stephanie Hsu and directed by Sarah Benson, made Audible’s Best of 2023 list, was nominated for an Audie, and is currently being considered for TV adaptation. He currently has other projects in development with Topic Studios and Fresh Produce Media. Asa’s one-woman play about mass movements, True Believer, had a sold-out run in New York City. To research that piece, Asa traveled to Cairo to meet with underground performers who helped ignite the Arab Spring. Other theater credits include collaborations with La Mama, CenterStage, TheaterLab, Space on White and Mixed Magic Theater. Asa studied acting and dance at the Moscow Theater Arts School in Russia, and dramatic writing at Columbia University. He is currently enrolled in a masters screenwriting program taught at Facultad de Cine in Mexico City, where he lives with his family.
