Shock Factory: The Visual Culture of Industrial Music Book Talk with Nicolas Ballet
Shock Factory: The Visual Culture of Industrial Music Book Talk with Nicolas Ballet
In his new book, Shock Factory: The Visual Culture of Industrial Music, Nicolas Ballet, art historian and associate curator in the New Media Department at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, explores the ever-present industrial genre through a multidisciplinary lens that spans musical, visual, multimedia, and performance arts. Ballet provides a critical framework to this subculture forged in the debris of postindustrial society while drawing on musique concrète traditions, electronic music, and punk. The ICA will host a book talk and Q & A with the author.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with a cash bar; 6-7:30 p.m. talk, followed by Q & A
