VPM & Style Weekly Present: Headwaters Down: Tidal River

Monday, Oct 6

6:00 PM–7:30 PM

VPM and Style Weekly present Part II of Headwaters Down: Tidal River (56 mins.), a multipart docuseries about the environmental and political history of the James River told by five friends as they travel its waters. In Part I, released in 2022, the filmmakers traveled 250 miles for thirteen days from Botetourt County to the fall line in Richmond. In Part II, the crew explores the Chesapeake Bay. Directed by Richmond filmmakers Justin Black, Will Gemma, and Stephen Kuester.

This event is part of the free FWD:RVA series, a curated week of arts and culture programming (October 6–9) presented by Style Weekly in conjunction with artoberVA. Designed to spotlight the creative energy driving Richmond forward, each night focuses on a different discipline—from visual art and theater to music, film, and design. Through performances, conversations, and special events, FWD:RVA creates space to engage with the work shaping the city—not just to celebrate it, but to explore where it’s going, who’s behind it, and what’s possible next. ArtoberVA, presented by CultureWorks, is a month-long celebration of arts and culture in Richmond and the Tri-Cities promoting over one thousand experiences from over one hundred participating artists and arts and culture organizations, spanning music, dance, theater, visual art, museums, and more.

Reception 6–6:30 p.m. | Screening 6:30 p.m. (56 mins.) | Panel discussion 7:30 p.m.
