Publishing as the Exquisite Corpse: Extending on Publishing as a Collective Effort

Publishing as the Exquisite Corpse: Extending on Publishing as a Collective Effort

2:00 PM–4:00 PM

Attend a workshop with publisher Yusuf Hassan co-organized by the ICA and the VCUarts Department of Graphic Design as part of the Objects and Methods Lecture Series. In this workshop, we will collaboratively create a publication in real time following the tradition of the Exquisite Corpse, where each participant contributes to an evolving, collective project. Participants will contribute text, images, or other media, and the process will involve a fluid exchange of ideas, fostering creativity and unexpected connections. By the end of the session, we will have completed a publication that reflects the diverse contributions of all involved, emphasizing the power of collaboration in the creative process.

Yusuf Hassan is the founder of BlackMass Publishing. Hassan’s work explores the idea of the book; his reductive technique and meditative approach challenge the physical and poetic boundaries of his materials.
