Provocations Performance: Broad Street Ramblers
February 22, 4:00 pm //
February 23, 3:00 pm
Traditional folk and blues trio
The Broad Street Ramblers are veteran Virginia musicians steeped in a wide range of traditional musical styles, ranging from string band tunes to rural blues to Celtic jigs and hornpipes. Historian and musician Gregg Kimball has written and presented extensively on Southern and African American history. He will be joined by Cluny Brown (vocals and percussion), and Peter Sims (guitar and ukulele). Using period images, original 78-rpm recordings played on a Victrola, and live performance, the band will explore racialized notions of American music and the tangled roots of our musical traditions.
