In post-civil war Spain, 1940, a young girl named Ana is profoundly impacted after watching a screening of Frankenstein. When her sister suggests that the monster is not dead but instead lurks in a nearby barn, Ana becomes consumed by a dark and unsettling fascination with the mysterious and often terrifying world around her. Directed by Victor Erice.

This film is presented as part of Exposure: In Bloom, in which radio host, journalist, and programmer of the Exposure cinema series Brandon Shillingford selects films exploring the complexities of the coming-of-age experience. Each screening will conclude with a brief discussion facilitated by Shillingford and ICA Assistant Curator Egbert Vongmalaithong.
