The La-A Consortium, Fourth Convening will extend Knight’s ongoing project The La-a-Consortium (2013–2018). This project envisions an alternate reality where the innovative contributions of African diasporic people are widely recognized as institutional namesakes. The performance will take the form of an annual meeting of the La-a Consortium, which serves as an umbrella organization for these fictive institutions. Local participants will act as leaders of Knight’s institutions. Non-traditional objects co-designed with Nontsikelelo Mutiti will be worn by each performer, creating a new visual language for institutionally branded objects that typically take forms such as mugs and pens.
