Do you have a story to tell? Learn to tell it well at Levels Up Academy, a two-week, in-person audio storytelling program at the VPM + ICA Community Media Center.

Levels Up Academy provides the media technology and guided instruction necessary to introduce Richmond’s rising generation (ages 17 to 22) to the hows and whys of storytelling in audio. Through this program, attendees will receive instruction from people who are in the business of making podcasts and audio art. Through the completion of an audio project, participants will get tangible experience they can transform into real jobs and paths to college.

Levels Up Academy is free-to-attend and community-inspired, complete with services to support attendees in critical capacities, including meals, transportation, and childcare where needed. The program provides an intensive opportunity to learn the technical and theoretical aspects of audio storytelling and investigation.

Participants who fulfill the program commitments will:

  • graduate with a completed audio project that can be submitted as part of university applications or other creative opportunity
  • be paid a stipend of $700
  • receive college application assistance
